Diamond Stealth Edge 3D Video and Soundcards

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING

DIAMOND STEALTH EDGE 3D 2000 AND EDGE 3D 2120 VIDEO CARDS.

Note: These instructions are designed for the more experienced user who is already familiar with installing devices under the Windows 95 environment. We have written this as a FREE guide and are giving it to you at NO charge. If you have further problems with installation software please call the Diamond Stealth/ Diamond Multimedia Systems Ltd on their UK Helpline (01189 44 44 00)!

What you need: Super CD from Diamond Multimedia Systems and the Microsoft Windows 95 CD ROM/installation diskettes. Note: Some motherboards that ship with the USB software for installing on-board USB need to have this installed before the Edge card will work. Check Control Panel/Device Manager to ensure no devices are disabled there.

(Installation automatically creates directories called "diamond" and "edgetemp") Use Autorun feature on Diamond Super CD. Start installation of "graphics card" by clicking on next. Internet Explorer will start. Click on the Edge3D_A.exe self-extracting file to automatically extract files to C: - On the "Opening File" screen choose open it rather than "save it". On the Authenticode ™ Security Technology screen that follows click Yes …then OK, then Extract Files, then OK. Exit Dos window when files have been extracted.

Repeat the above steps to extract the Edge3D_B.exe, Edge3D_C.exe and Edge3D_D.exe files. (Sometimes the open windows may be behind the Window on screen. Use the Alt+Tab to move between windows). Run Batch file called "unpack.bat" in the new C:\diamond\update directory. When machine stops unpacking (no message appears) close Dos Window.

Video Installation

Go to Control Panel\Add New Hardware. Choose no to automatic detection. Choose "Display Adaptors" and "Diamond Multimedia Systems". Click on "have disk" and direct the computer to C:\Edgetemp\nv. From the list choose Diamond Edge 3D……." Restart the computer and go back to the Control Panel/System/Device Manager and verify that the Edge 3D is the driver in use. If not double click on the device listed and change it to the Edge 3D device.

Sound Installation

Check control panel under Other Devices for "PCI Multimedia device". If you don’t have one listed then go to Step 1A. If you DO have one listed go to Step 1.

Step 1: Double click "PCI Multimedia Devices" , click "Driver" , "Update Driver", "No, select ….", scroll through list, click on "Sound, Video & Games Controllers", "Next", "Finish". Go to step 2

Step 1A: Go to Control Panel\Add New Hardware again. Choose no to automatic detection. Choose "Soundcards" and "Diamond Multimedia Systems". Click on "have Disk". Go to step 2

Step 2: Direct the computer to C:\Edgetemp\nv. (From the list choose the Edge 3D ). Click on Yes to keep old files (if and when prompted). Restart computer. When the machine restarts it may need files from the C:\Edgetemp\nv directory and/or the Win95 directory on the Windows 95 CD. You might need to restart again. When the machine restarts and needs the "nv" files, use browse to direct the computer to the C:\Edgetemp\nv directory again……or the Win95 directory on the Windows 95 CD ROM. If presented with a choice of 2 or more devices the one you want is the Edge 3D PCI Multimedia Device

Once the card is installed if you have problems in Windows 95 (like crashing) you may need to start up in safe mode and (Right click on the desktop) go to Properties/Settings/Change Display Type. Make sure that the refresh rate is set for "optimal" or "default" and not "unknown".
